Between Us Check-In
PRIVATE BY DESIGN

Privacy Policy

Effective August 7, 2026

The short version: We use sensitive relationship information to provide the check-in and support you request—not to advertise to you or expose one partner’s private answers to the other. We do not sell personal information. Optional survey comments may be used as de-identified quotes on our website or in marketing materials as described below.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how Between Us Check-In (“Between Us,” “we,” “us”) handles information when you use our website, accounts, relationship check-ins, shared reports, private growth tools, coaching features, recommendations, feedback surveys, and subscription services.

2. Information we collect

  • Account information: email address, authentication details, account identifiers, and session information.
  • Relationship and check-in information: ratings, written responses, comments, follow-up reflections, generated reports, progress history, private Work on Myself plans, coach conversations, safety-review results, and resource interactions.
  • Feedback: voluntary survey answers, optional written comments, completion status, and discount eligibility.
  • Billing information: Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, plan status, invoices, payment outcomes, renewal dates, discounts, and cancellation status. Between Us does not receive or store your complete payment-card number.
  • Technical and usage information: session cookies, local-storage identifiers, IP-derived request information used for security and rate limiting, pages viewed, buttons selected, check-in and checkout milestones, referral campaign fields, device/browser information supplied with requests, and error or operational logs.
  • Optional recordings: when both participants consent, an uploaded or recorded conversation is sent for transcription and analysis. Between Us returns the transcript and analysis to the active browser but does not store the audio or transcript in its database.

3. How we use information

We use information to authenticate users; connect the correct partner accounts; produce private and shared guidance; monitor progress; provide coaching, activities, recommendations, and safety-sensitive paths; process subscriptions and discounts; deliver service and renewal messages; understand the conversion funnel and product performance; prevent abuse; troubleshoot; protect users and the service; comply with law; and improve Between Us.

Survey comments and marketing: If you choose to provide an optional written comment in a feedback survey, we may use a short excerpt from that comment on the Between Us website or in marketing materials. We will use survey quotes in de-identified form and will not publish your name, your partner’s name, account information, check-in code, or other details that we reasonably believe would identify you or your partner without separate permission. We do not use private relationship-check-in answers, Work on Myself entries, coach conversations, or other private relationship content as marketing testimonials merely because you completed a survey.

4. How partner privacy works

Each partner’s individual answers are private. The shared report is designed to describe combined themes and useful differences without attributing a particular response to either person. Private plans, survey responses, coach conversations, and safety guidance are not intentionally disclosed to the other partner. A subscription is shared at the couple level, so both linked accounts may see whether the couple has active access, but they do not receive each other’s private billing credentials or private check-in answers.

5. When information is shared

We disclose information only as needed to operate the service, complete a request, protect rights and safety, comply with law, or use de-identified survey comments as described in Section 3. Service providers may process limited information on our behalf, including:

  • Neon for database hosting and authentication;
  • OpenAI for requested AI analysis, coaching, transcription, and personalized guidance;
  • Stripe for checkout, subscription billing, invoices, discounts, and billing management;
  • Render for application hosting and operational infrastructure; and
  • Resend for service-related email delivery.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to investigate fraud or misuse, to protect someone from serious harm, or as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of business assets with appropriate confidentiality protections.

6. AI processing

Relevant portions of your responses or conversations may be sent to an AI provider to create the feature you request. We instruct supported OpenAI API requests not to store response content where that option is available. We do not use one partner’s private responses to reveal who said what to the other partner.

7. Cookies, local storage, and analytics

Between Us uses cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in, remember the correct private check-in session, restore access across pages, prevent duplicate events, and understand whether important steps such as starting a check-in or checkout were completed. Our first-party conversion analytics are designed not to accept relationship answers, comments, or report text.

8. Data retention and deletion

Anonymous and active check-ins follow a limited retention schedule—generally beginning with a 30-day expiration window and extending as needed for active follow-up rounds. Account, survey, security, billing, and transaction records may be retained while your account or subscription is active and afterward when reasonably needed for service operation, dispute resolution, fraud prevention, accounting, legal compliance, and enforcement.

You can delete an active check-in using the service’s deletion control. Deletion removes stored response content and schedules the check-in for permanent removal. Some billing, security, backup, survey, or legal records may remain for the period required for the purposes above. If a de-identified survey quote has already been published, we may retain the published excerpt unless removal is required by law or we agree to remove it after a verified request.

9. Security

We use safeguards intended for the sensitivity of the information, including encrypted storage for check-in responses and generated private content, hashed access tokens and analytics identifiers, access controls, rate limits, and restricted administrative tools. No online system can be guaranteed completely secure, so protect your password, partner token, and private recovery links.

10. Your choices and privacy rights

You may decline optional surveys, recommendations, and conversation recording. Work on Myself is a required private stage of the Between Us program, but its plan, workbook content, reflection, and personal practice remain private from your partner except for completion status. You may leave the optional survey-comment field blank if you do not want to provide a comment that could be considered for de-identified quotation. You may manage or cancel billing through the secure billing portal and delete an active check-in through the app. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of personal information, or to appeal a privacy decision.

11. Children

Between Us is intended for adults and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the service changes. We will post the revised effective date and provide additional notice when required. Privacy questions or requests may be sent to feedback@betweenuscheckin.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
